Radio spectra of Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum radio sources
نویسندگان
چکیده
Awell defined sample of 72 Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum radio sources is compiled, having turnover frequencies in the range of 0.5 – 10 GHz. Using this sample, the canonical GPS radio spectrum is constructed, which is found to have a constant shape, independent of AGN type, redshift or radio luminosity. A possible deficiency of low turnover frequencies at high redshift is found, which may reflect a physical mechanism where turnover frequency and radio luminosity are correlated.

Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum sources from the Jodrell Bank – VLA Astrometric Survey I . Sources in the region 35 ◦ ≤ δ ≤ 75 ◦
Observations with MERLIN at 408 MHz have been used to establish the low-frequency part of the spectra of more than a hundred compact radio sources taken from the part of the Jodrell Bank–VLA Astrometric Survey limited by 35 ≤ δ ≤ 75. These sources were selected from JVAS and other catalogues to have convex spectra between 1.4 and 8.4 GHz, characteristic of Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) source...
متن کاملAn unbiased sample of bright southern Compact Steep Spectrum and Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum Sources
Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) and Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) sources are classes of compact, powerful, extragalactic objects. These sources are thought to be the earliest stages in the evolution of radio galaxies, capturing the ignition (or, in some cases, re-ignition) of the AGN. As well as serving as probes of the early stages of large-scale radio sources, these sources are good, stable, ...
متن کاملOptical spectroscopy of faint gigahertz peaked spectrum sources
We present spectroscopic observations of a sample of faint Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) radio sources drawn from the Westerbork Northern Sky Survey (WENSS). Redshifts have been determined for 19 (40%) of the objects. The optical spectra of the GPS sources identified with low redshift galaxies show deep stellar absorption features. This confirms previous suggestions that their optical light i...
متن کاملThe host galaxies of Compact Steep Spectrum and Gigahertz-Peaked Spectrum radio sources
I will review some of the developments in studies of the host galaxy properties of Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) and GigaHertz-Peaked Spectrum (GPS) radio sources. In contrast to previous reviews structured around observational technique, I will discuss the host galaxy properties in terms of morphology, stellar content and warm gas properties and discuss how compact, young radio-loud AGN are key...
متن کاملA sharper view of the outer Galaxy at 1420 and 408 MHz from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey I: Revisiting the KR catalogue and new Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum sources
Arcminute-resolution radio continuum images at 408 and 1420 MHz from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey (CGPS) have been used to reexamine radio sources listed in the Kallas & Reich (1980) catalogue. This catalogue is of particular interest to Galactic studies as it lists both extended and compact radio sources found in the second Galactic quadrant. We have determined the nature (extended vs. c...
